It seems that German automobile maker Volkswagen plans on well and truly embracing the CarPlay era with a total of eighteen vehicles supporting the platform. Let’s hope none of those 2016 ship with the infamous “defeat device” installed that has caused so much controversy for the company in the last six months. Vehicles equipped with Apple’s CarPlay provide a hands-free access to certain functionality, such as mapping, phone calls, messaging, music playback of course, and much more. There’s also instant access to third-party applications from a number of chosen suppliers.

There’s a great deal of emphasis being placed on the connected smart home at the minute, which is being led at a consumer level by the fact that manufactures are starting to conform to Apple’s HomeKit in droves, and now, we have CarPlay being headed into the same direction.

If you’re planning a new vehicle purchase this year, which one would you go for?
