Google has officially N-ounced that Android N is no longer Android N: it's Android Nougat! Nougat was a medium-strength contender for the name of the upcoming OS, and while we still don't have a version number, everyone knows it's the dessert part that's more exciting anyway.

Google's official Android YouTube channel just uploaded the video below. Above? A screen capture from it. Android 7.0 Nougat - there you have it. Google revealed the nickname of the latest Android OS earlier this morning along with the mascot you see above.

Android 7.0 follows Android 6.0.1, meaning Android 6 never even had a proper 6.X release. Android 5.0 had 5.1[.1], 4.0 had 4.1 through 4.4[.4], 3.0 had 3.1, 2.0 had 2.1 through 2.3[.7], and 1.0 had 1.1, 1.5, and 1.6.

What does this mean? Frankly, nothing. Almost nothing at all: it's just a number, an easy way to refer back to a particular iteration of the Android operating system. It's always fun to find out, nonetheless. Now, begin clamoring for your respective Android 7.0 OTA.

Number Five: Undo Send

Gmail has a fantastic feature that lets you undo a sent email that you may have fired off before it was ready. this feature is noticeably absent from the official Gmail app. If you download the inbox app, you’ll find the undo option popup after every email you send.

Number Four: Snooze Emails

Once again, this feature is exclusive to the Inbox app. Sometimes you’re not able to reply to all the incoming emails. Many of us will read and email and if we can’t shoot out a reply right away, we will forget about the email entirely. The snooze feature in Inbox lets you set a time or place where your email will popup again. Everyone has a different schedule. You might show up at home every night at 8:32pm. If that’s the case, then you can set a custom snooze time in your settings. Modify your morning, afternoon and evening times so when you snooze an email, you’ll receive it exactly when you want it.

Number Three: Format

In the default Gmail app, you can access the text format options by pressing and holding the composition field. You’ll have access to text color, highlight color, underline, italics and a few other essential features.

Number Two: Attachments

In the Gmail app, the attachments option will take you right to your file browser where you can select from your local files. The Inbox attachment system is much better, showing your recent files at the bottom of your screen. You can also launch your camera from within the app and snap a photo.

Number One: Google Now

Google Now handles sending emails like a champ. Start with the “New Email” command and Google will walk you through the rest. It’s fast and works great for simple emails that don’t require attachments and text formatting.

Almost all of the leaks about the Galaxy Note 7′s specifications have suggested that the upcoming flagship phablet is going to have a dual-edge 5.7-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED display, but it appears that Samsung is testing a variant of this handset with a 6-inch display and it’s unclear whether or not it’s also a dual-edge display like the one that was recently seen in leaked images.

A listing on import tracker Zauba shows that Samsung has imported a variant of theGalaxy Note 7 into India from South Korea for testing, it bears model number SM-N930R4 and is mentioned as having a screen size of 6-inches. We’ve already told you that SM-N930 is the model number for the Galaxy Note 7 so there are a couple of possibilities that we must consider here. Either this is just a prototype that Samsung is testing and the final product is going to stick with the 5.7-inch display or it’s merely an error in the Zauba listing that erroneously mentions the screen size as 6-inches. There’s not much evidence to support the existence of a 6-inch Galaxy Note 7 at this point in time so take this with a grain of salt at least until we come upon some more information.

WhatsApp is all set to bring the video calling feature to its messaging service.

It seems that WhatsApp will soon bring the much-awaited video calling feature to its messaging service. While the company has not yet rolled out the feature for any platforms, it has made an appearance on Android.

The video calling, which is not yet functional, can currently be seen only in the latest beta version of Android, which is available as an update (v 2.16.80) via the Google Play store.

You will only be getting this Whatsapp update if you have signed up for the Android Beta Testing Program, under which WhatsApp invites users to testing programs for unreleased versions.

WhatsApp has not added a separate icon for video call, and therefore, its addition to the app has not led to any noticeable change in the app's design and looks.

The company, apparently, has chosen the existing call icon for the video calling feature. This means tapping on the call icon (in a chat window), which would otherwise make a voice call, now give users two options - "Audio Call" and "Video Call" - to choose from.

Tapping on "Audio Call" connects a voice call, but tapping on "Video Call" takes users to a screen that says, "Couldn't place call. Video calling is unavailable at this time."

The new video calling feature may have made to the beta version, but it's not yet activated. The feature may not be working for now, but its presence in beta suggests that it will soon be rolled out for all the users.

The company is expected to soon release the public version.

WhatsApp, which is now owned by Facebook, last year had introduced the voice calling feature, which was rolled out in a phased manner on an invite-only basis and required users to have it enabled on their phone by getting a call from users who had the feature activated on their app.

It's yet to be seen when and how the company introduces this much-desired video calling feature.

It's hard to justify an ongoing subscription for content that, for the most part, is already free with advertising. In the hope of convincing a few more people to pony up for the premium tiers of its digital media services, Google is offering a sweet deal to new subscribers: four months of free, no-strings-attached access to both Google Play Music Unlimited and YouTube Red (which are already bundled for paying customers). That's a $40 value at today's subscription price.

There's a bit of a catch, though: this is only for new subscribers, so if you've tried Play Music Unlimited or YouTube Red before and then cancelled, you're ineligible for the promotional period. According to the post on SlickDeals, some users who previously signed up for free Google Play Music promotions can still get in - paying and then stopping an active subscription seems to be the stumbling point. Some commenters say they've been able to get around this restriction by logging out and then clicking the "sign up" button, but I've been unable to replicate it. Also note that since this is a July 4th promotion, it's likely to be limited to the United States.

Any way you slice it, four months of ad-free access to YouTube and Google Play Music is a pretty sweet deal. Make sure to cancel the subscription before the end date (November 2nd, if you sign up today) to avoid a $9.99 recurring charge, assuming you don't want to keep it.

There is speculation that Samsung is going to replace the current version of TouchWiz with a new version of its user interface that will debut on the Samsung Galaxy Note 7.  A video showing off the new version of the UI was posted by HDBlog.it, and is in Italian. Nevertheless, if you use your eyes instead of your ears, you will see that the new version of the UI is cleaner than the most recent versions of Touch Wiz.

You might also notice that the colors are more subdued on the new UI. The video shows us how to put widgets on the screen, choose from a number of different themes, and how to select different wallpaper. Various core apps are shown with various changes. New APKs for the so-called Grace UX can be found in the sourcelink after being posted by XDA Developers. Included are APKs for the SNote, SBrowser, the video player, launcher and more. To use this, you will need root access.

Samsung has been criticized for years over TouchWiz. Initial complaints called the icons too cartoonish followed by complaints over the saturated colors employed on the UI. Many were hoping for a much lighter feel. From what we can see of the new look UI, it appears that a number of issues have been addressed. And the good news for those with theSamsung Galaxy S7 and Samsung Galaxy S7 edge is that the new UI might be made available to those two models in a future update.

Back in March, we told you that Samsung was planning on offering a special Olympic Edition of the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge. Three months later, press renders of the device were leaked. Today, Sammy's German subsidiary released a teaser that reveals a July 7th unveiling for the Samsung Galaxy S7 edgeOlympic Edition.

Inside the Galaxy S7 edge Olympics Edition, we don't expect to see any changes to the unit's specs. On the outside, you might notice the use of yellow trim around the home button and elsewhere on the front of the device. On the side, red and green are employed with blue used for the Olympic logo on the back of the phone. Those, of course, are the Olympic colors. We also could see the handset loaded with special Olympic themed apps.

This isn't the first time that Samsung has honored the Olympics with a special edition phone. Four years ago, limited edition models of the Samsung Galaxy SIII and theSamsung Galaxy Note were produced to celebrate the 2012 Olympics, and a special version of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 celebrated the Winter Olympics in 2014.

On July 7th, Samsung will continue the tradition by introducing the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge Olympic Edition. On that date we should learn everything about the device, from pricing to availability.

YouTube is going to earn a reputation as a service that doesn't let anybody else stomp on its territory. In a story that sounds entirely too similar to the launch of YouTube Gaming to combat the success of Amazon-owned Twitch, rumors started circulating a few months ago with the suggestionYouTube had started preparing for a head-on fight with mobile livestreaming services like Periscope. It was no surprise when a formal announcement was made last week confirming YouTube would add live streaming to its flagship mobile app. The latest update to v11.25 contains evidence this is either ready to go, or at least in the works.

Teardown

Disclaimer: Teardowns are based on evidence found inside of apks (Android's application package) and are necessarily speculative and usually based on incomplete information. It's possible that the guesses made here are totally and completely wrong. Even when predictions are correct, there is always a chance that plans could change or may be canceled entirely. Much like rumors, nothing is certain until it's officially announced and released.

The features discussed below are probably not live yet, or may only be live for a small percentage of users. Unless stated otherwise, don't expect to see these features if you install the apk.

Live Streaming

It doesn't take much to confirm a feature that's already been announced. We can keep this one quick since it's just two lines of text and an image. The two new lines describe a button with the words "Go live" scrawled across the front of it.

The image, named ic_broadcast, will be combined with the text above to produce a button that looks like this:

Much like the YouTube Gaming app, which already supports live-streaming, tapping on the button will launch into a short procedure to prepare the broadcast.

The real question, of course, is whether or not this stuff actually means the livestream feature is going to launch with this version. At the moment, I suspect it's not going to. To begin with, there aren't any obvious banners or text to promote mobile livestreams–and let's be honest, if YouTube is doing this to launch a feature to compete with an already established service, there's no chance this is going to happen quietly.

I would also expect to see various strings and images for setting up a stream. These were very prominent and obvious elements in the YouTube Gaming teardown, and while they might not have to be as elaborate, there will have to be at least a few instructions, button labels, and a banner image or two. Of course, many of the apps in the Google family are known for loading resources and code separate from the apk, so it's still possible to add the important pieces and launch with this version... It's just unlikely. Even so, that doesn't mean another update can't roll out at any time. It's not hard to imagine YouTube is very eager to get this going.

More A/B Tests

I haven't seen any new features specific to this update, so it's likely to be more for bug fixes and the like; but a number of odd little changes have been showing up between devices as a part of some A/B tests. For example, a couple of my phones now show a new YouTube Red line on my account page that leads to an explanation of the benefits for subscribers. On devices with this change, the line in the Settings screen called "YouTube Red" is renamed to "My YouTube Red" and leads to the same screen.

Another interface change that I've seen in teardowns and a few people have mentioned in tips for a while is starting to roll out to more devices. It switches the upload button on the account page into a camera and it leads to a darker upload screen including a shortcut to begin a video recording. Note, this recording launches a separate camera app, thus it's not part of the live streaming feature discussed above.

A new casting feature appears to be going live for some in Chrome on the desktop (including mainline releases), with the dialogue shown in the hero image above asking users to consent to "enable casting to cloud-based service." This includes, apparently, casting Chrome tabs to Hangouts.

Casting tabs to Hangouts isn't actually new - we first saw it last May - but the feature never appeared to be widespread, and at the time tab casting itself was still in beta. This new version, unfortunately, doesn't actually appear to work yet. But there's a Google Support page and everything for it, so it's definitely a thing.

Casting Chrome tabs into Hangouts is cool and all (presumably, they mean video hangouts), but this whole "cloud services" bit is what intrigues me. Exactly what other "cloud services" would I be casting to? The upcoming video chat client Duo doesn't seem like a good fit - that's definitely more conversational. But perhaps Google plans to integrate tab casting into more products at some point. I'm not coming up with any immediate use cases off the top of my head, so I'm sure curious what it is Google may have planned here.

The Idol 3 was a solid phone when it came out last year, but Alcatel quickly fell behind on Android updates. As of now, this phone is still running 5.0.2, but that's about to change. The Marshmallow update is going to start hitting devices today. Like they say, better late than never.
